Many of you probably know Leonardo da Vinci as the artist who created the Mona Lisa but he was so much more than that. In his lifetime he was famous not only for being an amazing painter, but also for being an architect, mathematician, Scientist and Inventor He was born on April 15th more than 500 years ago, but his art lives on.

Leonardo da Vinci's full name is Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. It's a pretty long name for one person, but it is simpler than it looks. You see, Leonardo is his first name. His father's name was Piero and he came from a place called Vinci. So basically, the full name comes down to "Leonardo, the son of Mr. Piero of Vinci".

Little Leonardo was a very Curious child. He read many books, played music, and was so good in math that he sometimes had questions his teachers couldn't answer. As a kid, his art was just a hobby. It turned into a career when da Vinci was 14 years old; his father showed some of Leonardo's work to one of the greatest artists in Florence – Andrea del Verrocchio. Verrocchio liked his work and took him in to work at his Workshop It has been said that at some point, Verrocchio felt like Leonardo became better than him, so he stopped painting completely. A little Petty if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.

Over the years, da Vinci has also done a lot of Research He wrote most of his researches in his papers, notebooks and diaries. The number of pages written by da Vinci that we know of today is about 7,200! Other than Research his writings are filled with many other things: music, thoughts, sketches, and even shopping lists! The biggest collection of his notebooks can be found in Paris.

One of Da Vinci's biggest interests was flying. He learned a lot about birds, their anatomy and the way they fly, and based on that, he designed a few planes, helicopters, and other flight accessories.

Da Vinci has lived a rich life, filled with knowledge and creation. He passed away at the age of 67 in France. He was Buried there in a Church but that Church was Ruined in 1789. This means that now, nobody knows for sure where his body is. He may have had a lot of knowledge, but his body's location is still a mystery.
