It’s summertime, so I thought this time I’d tell you a little bit about a perfect summer destination: Hawaii!
Nowadays, Hawaii is a part of the US, but this wasn’t always the case. It only became an official US state on August 21, 1959, (which is this month!).
Did you know that it’s the only state in the US that is all made of islands? Hawaii spreads over hundreds (!) of different islands, and it has eight central ones: Ni’ihau, Kaua’i, O’ahu, Moloka’i, Lāna’i, Kaho’olawe, Maui, and Hawai’i. Hawai’i is the largest island of them all.
Hawaii is seen by many people as an ideal place to relax. I mean — have you ever seen it in pictures? It’s gorgeous — sandy beaches everywhere and a tropical climate. What else could a tourist ask for?
Other than its numerous beaches, Hawaii is also famous for its many volcanos, some of which are still active. These Volcanos make it into a really attractive Destination for geologists.
Hawaii's two official languages are English and Hawaiian. Hawaiian developed on the island of Hawai’i, and it has only 13 letters in its alphabet.
Some cool words in Hawaiian:
Hello: aloha, Thank you: mahalo,Until we meet again: A hui hou, How are you?: howzit?, Yes: ’Ae, No: ’A’ole
