Same Title, Different Song

A few weeks ago, a friend at the office asked me to put on a song for her. She gave me the name, I looked it up on YouTube and put it on. However, when the music started playing, it turned out that this wasn’t the song she Meant There were two songs with that same name, and that they sound nothing alike! My friend and I quickly realized that this was not the only case of two (or more) different songs that share a Title Here are some of the songs we found.
“I Want You Back”: Jackson 5/Nsync
For those of you who don’t know, Jackson 5 was a band of five brothers. The most famous of the brothers was, of course, Michael Jackson. This song came out in 1969 but it made a comeback in 2014 as part of the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy (שומרי הגלקסיה).
Nsync was the boy band in which Justin Timberlake had his big break as a musician. “I Want You Back” was a part of their Debut album from 1997. It has been around for more than 20 years, but it makes me want to dance.
“If I Can’t Have You”: Yvonne Elliman/Shawn Mendes
Yvonne Elliman has done many things in her career. She wrote music and sang songs, and she even performed in musicals. However, she is mostly known for her 1977 disco hit “If I Can’t Have You.”
Shawn Mendes is one of the hottest young names in music today. This May, many years after the song came out, Mendes released his own single with the same name. Both songs are different in sound but they have the same message.
“Señorita”: Justin Timberlake/Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello
When Timberlake’s song came out in 2002 it was a huge hit. It has everything a song needs to become a hit: a good-looking singer, some Latin beat, and Pharrell Williams as a co-writer. It has been out for years and it has over 87 million Views on YouTube. However, this last June, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello released their own song called “Señorita” and it only took them five days to get over 90 million views!
